The Department of Narcotics Control Bangladesh (DNC) and the Royal University of Dhaka (RUD) jointly organized a seminar on “Prevention and Cure of Narcotics” at Royal University of Dhaka auditorium on 30 September 2019.
Professor Dr. Profulla Chandra Sarkar, Vice-chancellor, Royal University of Dhaka was the chief guest and the seminar was presided over by RUD Registrar Dr. Md. Abdul Hoque Talukder. Additional Director, Department of Narcotics Control Md. Fazlur Rahman was the special guest and delivered a speech on drug abuse. Moreover, Mr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Proctor, Peoples University of Bangladesh and Mr. Shaymol Jakaria, Managing Director, Omega Point also delivered the speech as special guests. Mr. Mukul Jyoti Chakma, Deputy Director presented the Key-note paper on the adversity of drug addiction.
More than 150 students and teachers attended the seminar. An open discussion and Quiz contest was also conducted and the students took active participation in the contest. At the end of the seminar, Additional Director, Md. Fazlur Rahman handed over the anti-drug poster to the Chief Guest and the Vice-Chancellor of the university.
The use of drugs has its devastating effect on our society. Drug addiction leads to disintegration of family ties. Chief guests and other special guests emphasized that the abuse of narcotics and drugs has increased manifold in Bangladesh including its production and involvement of terrorists groups with this trade. Due to the location of Bangladesh in between the golden triangle and golden crescent, trafficking of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances getting increased day by day. Speakers also said that there should be massive motivational campaign about bad effects of drug abuse. Guardians and parents, teachers and nearest relatives must keep constant vigilance so that a youth cannot be derailed with the influence of bad companions.
